All the pups are doing well, we are happy to hear from all the puppy owners. We are very pleased that this breeding worked well. We're also very pleased with the one we kept - she's a very adorable young pup showing great hunting and companion qualities.

Luna is in season. We will know how the breeding goes in 2 weeks. December 2016: Good things take time! We chose the stud for our next litter- Charly von der Emsaue He is a great hunter and has wonderful personality, his siblings tested very successfully in Germany. Charly also has near zero chance of being epilepsy carrier, which was a very important selection criteria for us since our Luna also has near zero chance. Charly was also imported from Germany and he now lives in Nebraska, where we'll travel for the breeding. I will now start taking deposits, first from the people on the waiting list. Update November 2016: Good news! Luna (Beena) has been approved for breeding by SMCNA Breed Council. Update September 2016: OFA hips certification arrived and her hips are EXCELLENT! Only 41 SM out of 192 tested received "Excellent". Certification number is VDHKLM140745, anyone can verify it on OFA site (note her registered name is Beena) Luna will be bred in February 2017, pups will be ready to go to their new homes around June. I am getting advice from some very experienced people, including professional geneticist. So we'll get there eventually. Dog breeding is tricky business if done right. I am continuously been asked the same questions, so to save everyone some time I added FAQ section at the bottom of this page, just scroll down. Spring woodcock migration is happening now. The birds are going through on the way to the local breeding grounds and north. Fun time for the dogs. Couple days ago we had a banner day - 23 bird contacts for the two dogs.
This is what you get trying to take photos in woodcock habitat, at least there are no leaves yet. |
